Many networks are adding location based services at the moment. Facebook added a map based service a few weeks ago for example.


One of the more innovative new features at Xing is called "The Mobile Handshake". This is also based on geo-location and allows you to locate and befriend Xing contacts near you an your mobile in a simple procedure.

More Features For Basic Members

Other new features give basic members some of the features already available to premium members including messaging.

They also added powerful search and sort functionality, outlook integration, more (advanced) mobile features, share buttons and a toolbar.

The Outlook feature although also available from LinkedIn, Myspace and others is great value if you compare the paid service Plaxo offers for example.

Xing's search and sort functionality already was great: now you also have your own to do list.

In addition they have a new layout which looks modern and fresh.

In Conclusion

In conclusion: it is a thorough overhaul and offers great value for money if compared to some of the other larger social networks. But apart from the "Mobile Handshake" it seems Xing is not taking any big risks as in trying to be on the forefront of technology.
